The Rainforest collection stands out due to its unique properties. Majuri has utilized 3D design techniques to create shapes with extremely thick glass, housing a small bubble for water, crafted using a rare Scandinavian steamstick technique. Each vase is hand-shaped from blown glass, signed, and numbered, ensuring its uniqueness.
The realization of these designs is a meticulous process. The pieces are 3D modelled, shaped from hot glass, and blown with a steam stick. This process results in a unique color play within the glass, bringing each piece to life. The interaction of the glass with light creates vivid illusions, with the shadows and reflections becoming integral parts of the objects.
The Rainforest collection consists of vases of varying sizes, with the tall vase measuring 250 mm x 120 mm x 120 mm, the medium vase 200 mm x 150 mm x 150 mm, and the small vase 100 mm x 100 mm x 110 mm. Despite their voluminous appearance, the vases are designed to appear light, with only a small space for the plant inside, highlighting its presence.
The project began in May 2019 in Helsinki, Finland, and the Rainforest collection was exhibited at Dubai Design Week 2019. The collection aims to create vases with unusually thick glass, a challenge that Majuri successfully overcame. The process involved finding the perfect flow for the colors to maintain a fresh appearance, leading to the development of a new method to apply liquid-like color on hot glass.
Winning the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2020, the Rainforest collection is a testament to Majuri's creativity and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, introduce a sense of amazement and wonder, truly embodying the contrasts and harmony found in nature.
